What’s a vernal pool? During this family-friendly hike, you’ll learn about these ephemeral wonders and investigate how nature changes in the spring season. Vernal pool hikes are extra special at Copicut Woods, where you can look and listen for woodpeckers at field edges and warblers in the thickets. You’ll also wander along Shockley trail and, deeper into the woods, past brooks and giant boulders, rock outcrops, and cellar holes. Magnifying glasses and binoculars will be provided to best appreciate the wildflowers, tadpoles, and other signs of spring! This program is part of a three-part Vernal Pool Explorers series at Copicut Woods. Participants are welcome to attend any number of sessions—each program works as a standalone experience or can be paired with two or three for a deeper exploration. The Fall River Public Library invites all photography enthusiasts to join our new Photography Group. On the last Wednesday of each month, participants will share their work, provide feedback, and join in open discussion about the wonderful art of photography! A monthly, optional theme will be picked at random to help inspire and prompt our members to make new and exciting work to share each session. Participants are asked to bring in a thumbdrive of their work, with a selection of 5-10 photos, if they intend to share with the group that month. While we gladly accept photographers at all stages of their journeys, the Photography Group does not offer photography lessons. We do encourage our participants to ask questions about photography, and to share tips and tricks they’ve learned with each other. This program is intended for photographers ages 13 and up.

The Preservation Society of Fall River is holding its annual yard sale fundraiser on Saturday, May 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at New Boston Bakery! Stop by to support the the Preservation Society's mission to preserve and promote the architecture and history of Fall River as well as support the creation of its future Underground Railroad Museum. New Boston Bakery will be open for the duration of the yard sale! If you have any items you'd like to donate to the yard sale, donations will be accepted the week before the event at New Boston Bakery during its normal business hours.
