The second Thursday of each month we meet to discuss all things comics - making, thinking, reading, sharing, etc. Share your favorite manga with peers! Maria Muldaur is best known world-wide for her 1973 mega-hit “Midnight at the Oasis,” which received several Grammy nominations, and enshrined her forever in the hearts of Baby Boomers everywhere; but despite her considerable pop music success, her 60 year career could best be described as a long and adventurous odyssey through the various forms of American Roots Music. During the Folk Revival of the early '60s, she began exploring and singing early Blues, Bluegrass and Appalachian “Old Timey” Music, beginning her recording career in 1963 with the Even Dozen Jug Band, and shortly thereafter joining the very popular Jim Kweskin Jug Band, touring and recording with them throughout the '60s. In the 53 years since “Midnight at the Oasis” Maria has toured extensively worldwide and has recorded 44 solo albums covering all kinds of American Roots Music, including Blues, Gospel, R&B, Jug Band, Jazz and Big Band (not to mention several award-winning children’s albums). Open Draw for Teens provides a space in the library every other Saturday for teens to draw and socialize with other creative peers! Every session we will have ample time to free draw, and occasionally will host workshops on paper crafts like making zines, flipbooks, pop-up comics, as well as assorted drawing exercises. Bring your sketchbooks, drawing pads, loose paper, old magazines, your favorite pens and pencils… whatever it is you use to draw! Some basic materials will also be available to use each session. Every two weeks, join the library and several community partners for our community resource day! Organizations will be on hand to provide information and assistance for various community needs such as healthcare, homelessness, immigration, mental health issues, food insecurity, and more. This event is open to all members of the public and no registration is required.
Get feedback on your work and meet local creatives at this Monthly Artists Share! group, facilitated by Midori Creativity. Artists Share! is a place to share your creative work, get support and feedback, and be part of a wonderful discussion. Hosted by Midori Creativity, we're all about cross-pollination welcoming painters, jewelry makers, fiber artists, photographers, musicians, scultptors and more. Our exhibit, Creative Catalysts, celebrates the interplay and creative exploration that happens when artists of different genres work together. Anyone is welcome and we take turns sharing. Sometimes we are looking at a body of work and other times we are talking about creative identity. The group meets every month, aiming to help each other progress and grow in our work by sharing and exploring together. It's a chance to learn from people whose work may be different from your own but who have insights you could never imagine. We laugh, share ideas, and have fun! Participants can also attend via Zoom. Science fiction and fantasy lovers are invited to join us for our monthly book discussion group! On the third Thursday of each month, we will meet at 6 pm to talk about a different sci-fi or fantasy book, ranging from new titles to classics. Each month's selection will be announced on this calendar and at the previous meeting. In July, we are discussing The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison.
