Viva Fall River

The Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Wall

Feb 6, 2024 | Attractions

Dedicated in 1976 to commemorate the bicentennial of the United States, Veterans’ Memorial Bicentennial Park holds deep historical significance for the Fall River community. The park was conceived as a lasting tribute to the men and women from Fall River who served in the armed forces, spanning conflicts from the Revolutionary War to the present day. In 2021, the park welcomed a stunning new addition- a 80% to-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Wall in Washington DC. Just like the original monument in DC, the wall is engraved with over 58,000 names, representing American casualties or prisoners of war during the Vietnam War.

The opening of the wall has established Veterans’ Memorial Bicentennial Park as a place of pilgrimage for veterans, military families and those with an interest in military history. It has also become the site of many annual events and ceremonies organized by local veterans organizations. The park also contains a replica of the Iwo Jima Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as monuments to the Korean War, the War on Terror and Gold Star Families.
