Fall River, MA — The Narrows Center for the Arts will come alive with the sounds of the Azores on Friday, May 30, as soulful singer-songwriter Romeu Bairos takes the stage for one night only. This special event, presented by The Portuguese Kids and Viva Fall River, promises to be a vibrant celebration of modern Azorean culture—complete with live music and local flavors.

Born in Furnas, São Miguel, Azores, Romeu Bairos is known for his haunting voice and innovative approach to traditional Azorean music. A finalist in Portugal’s Festival da Canção 2021, and a standout in the Netflix series Rabo de Peixe, Bairos is making waves with his debut album “Romê das Furnas” released in February 2025. His work seamlessly fuses folk roots with modern instrumentation, including the traditional “viola de dois corações”, inviting listeners into a soulful and contemporary sonic journey.

Opening the evening will be Tori Costa, a genre-bending artist whose blend of Portuguese fado and vintage rock evokes comparisons to both Carmen Miranda and Stevie Nicks. Her electrifying performances, bilingual lyrics, and unmistakable contralto voice have made her one of the most exciting voices emerging from the Portuguese-American music scene.

Avo’s Feast, a beloved local business, will be on site serving traditional “Feast Food” for purchase—bringing flavors from the Azores straight to the heart of Fall River. This collaboration transforms the concert into more than just a show—it’s a full cultural experience.

The event is hosted by Derrick and Brian of The Portuguese Kids, known for their comedic take on Portuguese-American culture and their ongoing commitment to bringing vibrant Portuguese traditions into the spotlight.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $32 the day of the show.

Doors open at 7:00 PM, with music starting at 8:00 PM.

ABOUT ROMEU BAIROS

Born in Furnas, Azores, Romeu Bairos envisioned his future in music from an early age. Influenced by his family’s close ties to Azorean musical culture, Bairos has been exploring a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Azorean songs, incorporating new instruments such as the “viola de dois corações” (traditional Azorean guitar). As a solo artist, he released the EP Cavalo Dado, where he experimented with songwriting and melodies, following the paths of artists like Portuguese singer-songwriter B Fachada. However, it was his participation in the national edition of Eurovision and his interpretation of Sandro G’s song “Eu Não Vou Chorar” that brought his music to wider national attention.

He released his first EP “Cavalo Dado” in 2019 and was a finalist in the Festival da Canção in 2021. He is part of the cast of the series “Rabo de Peixe,” distributed by Netflix, in which he also participated in the soundtrack. His debut album “Romê das Furnas” was released in February 2025

ABOUT TORI COSTA

Infusing Portuguese folk & Americana roots into a global pop/rock palette of sound, Tori Costa crafts a niche fusion of Luso-Americano rock that is genre-bending, exotically enchanting, and deeply nostalgic, while also remaining entirely her own creation. Her distinctly recognizable contralto range reminisces on the Portuguese tradition of fado music, melded into a vulnerable yet provocative rock-and-roll delivery. Her bold artistry moves audiences to new heights with her natural crowd intuitio, and versatility as a multi-instrumentalist with a dance background. A true multi-hyphenate, Tori composes her bilingual serenades with astute vision, reflected in the creativity and originality of her self-directed music videos and live performances. Tori’s Azorean heritage and southern New England origins are evident throughout her lyrical themes and musicalities.
