Marc Berger in Concert: RIDE

Fall River Public Library 104 North Main St, Fall River, MA

Musician Marc Berger performs music from his acclaimed album RIDE, exploring the myths, landscapes, and people of the American West. Join us for this free concert by an artist whose unique folk/alt-country sound has been compared to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. Inspired by Marc’s lifelong love affair with the American West RIDE captures the vastness and romance of the West while exploring its deep roots in the American psyche. From the haunting message and beat of “Twister” and the soul-shaking challenge of taming a wild horse in “Take it on the Chin”, to the sexy, mind-blowing, middle-of-nowhere encounter of “Time Waits For No Man” and on through seven more scenic stops, RIDE takes you on a dusty tour of the Great American Frontier. “Echoes the stark, evocative songs of Springsteen’s Nebraska, the cinematic tone of Mark Knopfler and the Lone Star alt-country charms of Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt." - Direct Current This program is supported in part by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Sensory Ocean Bottle Workshop

Hold the ocean in your hands with these fun to make sensory bottles! Upend the bottle or give it a shake and watch the movement of the 'waves,' shells, and sea creatures inside for instant stress relief. We will include all the supplies needed to create this engaging craft including bottles and plastic sea creatures! Register for this event beginning Tuesday, April 9. Mad Science!

Fall River Public Library 104 North Main St, Fall River, MA

Mad Science's Life in the Sea workshop plunges children into the depths of ocean life using a variety of engaging hands-on activities. Children will learn to classify creatures from squids to sponges, compare the size of  shark and whale teeth, learn about the ocean's ecosystem and more. Children will leave with their own take-home activity to further their own exploration of the sea at home. This program is recommended for grades K-12.  Registration is required for this event as space and supplies are limited. Children’s Poetry Day

April is Poetry Month and the Children's Room will be celebrating with a presentation featuring poems and stories from some of children's literature's best loved poets! The morning will highlight such well-known poets as Shel Silverstein, Jack Prelutsky, Emily Dickinson, and Dr. Seuss! Kids can also enjoy an easy-to-make craft and a a guest appearance by the Cat in the Hat! A Day in the Life of a Whaling Voyage

Join Nancy Gentile of the New Bedford Whaling Museum and Capt. Michael Taylor, a British merchant mariner, for "A Day in the Life of a Whaling Voyage," an illustrated presentation that takes you into the world of a 19th-century New England whale ship. Learn what life was like aboard these mighty whaling vessels, watch a real-life demonstration of the harpoons that whalers used, and see baleen taken from the massive jaws of a whale. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Fall River Public Library. Stephanie will have all of the supplies and tools you need to make necklaces, bracelets, earrings and keychains! All we need is your creativity.
