DESCRIPTION:What’s a vernal pool? During this family-friendly hike\, you’ll learn about these ephemeral wonders and investigate how nature changes in the spring season. Vernal pool hikes are extra special at Copicut Woods\, where you can look and listen for woodpeckers at field edges and warblers in the thickets. You’ll also wander along Shockley trail and\, deeper into the woods\, past brooks and giant boulders\, rock outcrops\, and cellar holes. Magnifying glasses and binoculars will be provided to best appreciate the wildflowers\, tadpoles\, and other signs of spring! \n\n\n\nThis program is part of a three-part Vernal Pool Explorers series at Copicut Woods. Participants are welcome to attend any number of sessions—each program works as a standalone experience or can be paired with two or three for a deeper exploration. There is no requirement to attend all sessions. \n\n\n\nPart 1: Sunday\, April 19Part 2: Sunday\, May 17Part 3: Sunday\, June 7 \n\n\n\nFirst time at Copicut? This will be an easy to moderate walk along dirt trails with slight inclines in some areas. You can expect semi-rocky terrain and exposed roots in some areas of the trail. The path taken will be determined based on where we are most likely to hear or see wildlife and find vernal pools. Parking is available at the entrance to the trailhead. \n\n\n\nPre-registration is required for this event. In the event of cancellation\, you will be notified via the email address you used to register and refunded in full within 14 business days.
