I was worried about what we think about vaginas, and even more worried that we don't think about them. . . . So I decided to talk to women about their vaginas, to do vagina interviews, which became vagina monologues. At first women were reluctant to talk. They were a little shy. But once they got going, you couldn't stop them." So begins V’s (Formerly Eve Ensler) hilarious, eye-opening play that has inspired a dynamic grassroots movement - V-Day - to stop violence against women. The award-winning Vagina Monologues has rocked audiences around the world with a chorus of lusty, outrageous, poignant, and thoroughly human stories. It gives voice to real women's deepest fantasies and fears, a celebration of female sexuality in all its complexity and mystery, guaranteeing that no one who sees it will ever look at a woman's body, or think of sex, in quite the same way again.

United Neighbors of Fall River and The Center For Women, Gender and Sexuality at UMASS Dartmouth are delighted to bring this awe-inspiring production to The Narrows. Inspirit Your Writing! A Workshop for Writers and Creators

The cognitive states that we assume will set us back actually move us forward. Part workshop, part reading, this event offers writers and creators a chance to hear Maggie Jackson, an award-winning author and journalist known for her penetrating writings on social trends, discuss her new book Uncertain: The Wisdom and Wonder of Being Unsure. Following her presentation and discussion on how uncertainty plays a role in the creative life, participants will share insights, writing exercises, and small group discussions guided by creativity coach Midori Evans. Uncertain will be available for sale at the event. This program is supported in part by a grant from the New Bedford Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Monthly Children’s Workshop with Susan Drayton

Join us for these fantastic children’s events here at SoCo Art Labs, hosted by artist and author, Susan Drayton. This event, funded by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council and the Mass Cultural Council is free for children. Each month's activity will be different but will all strive to strengthen children's motor and problem solving skills through planning and making their very own artwork, while also focusing on literacy and creativity. Does your kid love art??? We are hosting ART CAMP for April school vacation week and would love to have your kiddo join us for the fun! Each day will feature a new theme and our crafts will be geared towards the theme. We will also be reading books, doing kids yoga and teaching your children about using recycled/repurposed materials to create anything they can imagine! Our day will run from 9am to 3pm and children should plan to bring a lunch and two snacks. Open to children ages 5-13. Sign up for the full week for $325 or $80 per day, depending on your schedule.
